This is the sort of thing that can take a while to get your head around, but you will eventually. It won't be so...confusion-inducing forever.

I don't pity you. I think you're too strong to be pitiful.

Obliviation is a Charm that can go wrong in so many ways it's not even funny. At best, you could end up just covering the memory up and have it recur later. At worst, you could end up a vegetable. Or drive yourself insane. There's several books on the matter, actually, if you'd like me to gt a hold of them for you.
