Ha ha -- I was out of the country when it peaked, so I can still enjoy it. Although it took at least 2 years before I could listen to Utada's First Love again. When the Japanese go nuts over a song, it's not just everywhere on tv and radio -- it's streaming through the city streets and permeating every conceivable space. That summer, you were either listening to First Love, or you were asleep.
What that last person said is true in Italy too. EuroMTV has about 6 videos that they play. I still can't listen to "Fuck You" by Eamon or "Don't Tell Me" by Avril Lavigne - which I couldn't stand in the first place, btw - without cringing. It was weird to come back to the US and hear the censored Eamon song, because EVERY store you went to in Italy would just be blasting the uncensored version. Anyway, on another note, I'm glad you're actually updating your livejournal now. Makes me feel like we're friends, or something.
