The badassness of Kidou Senshi Gundam and why SEED is a pale reflection

Seriously, after watching SEED, I can definitely say that the original was superior. If SEED had more of the original's chops, I'd have respected it more ( Read more... )

*G* Going to watch GSD to complete the set?

I've never watched the original G so I can't compare really but I did like GS for some of the themes (I thought Fllay, although I disliked her, was handled very well) and ep. 49 always gets me. (NOOOOO... Natarle!)

Yeah, Flay was a bitch - I totally want to slap her for idiocy. Natarle was cool and she really should have stayed with the Archangel.

From what I've heard of GSD, I should just watch the first half and totally make up the second half - it bodes badly that you actually have to replace your lead halfway through a show.

I'll ptobably just watch the movie compilation than the full series. ^_^

Yeah, but... it's realistic. People dislike/envy abnormal/genius/different people.

Natarle is, imo, also the best strategic and tactical commander in the entire series; I was esp. impressed with the battle between the Dominion and the ArchAngel. And she definitely learns from being under Murrue's command. Murrue of course is probably better on the whole knowing her identity and making those intangible decisions. It's interesting btw that the Coordinator genes in terms of warmaking only shows up in Gundams. There doesn't seem to be any difference in terms of warship commanding.

GSD:

Hrm. I watched it for the fight scenes -- esp. Kira owning Shinn. Yeah, Shinn... never grew up. He's an angsty idiot and stays an angsty idiot. As for Cagalli, I disliked her beginning character development but the end was very nice. Athrun completely lost any of my sympathy. The other highlight for me were the fights between Minerva and Archangel.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. But seriously, Gundam worked without the racism/genocide angle before Wing and it was still good. IMHO, it probably just means race relations probably have reached Japan and are a bigger concern than it was in the '60s. The thing is combine that with uber-piloting angsty teenage boys you have a perfect setting for wish fulfillment power fantasy tripe that I read on FF.net. ^_^

Murrue's the commander with a heart, the sort that would get troop loyalty because everyone knows that they're doing the right thing; the fact that she has a better intuitive grasp of strategy than most helps, too. Natarle is the brain: she knows what to do and does it efficiently, though she's a bit by-the-book; book learning all the way.

Put them together and you get Belisarius. ^_^

I'll probably write of GSD then... ^_^
