Oh my god oh my god oh my god. Critical Language Scholarship, yay! Except I have to write four essays... alas. Gwaaaaaaa!

I am swamped in Chinese and Japanese homework because I did not have my textbooks for the first week. And I also did not have my workbooks the second week. I am smart.

is it confusing to be taking Chinese and Japanese at the same time?

Right now, yes, but only because I spent the summer learning Chinese and subsequently forgetting Japanese. It's actually more helpful than harmful to learn both, I think. It's really useful for learning the characters, and it's hard to get them mixed up because the pronunciation and grammar are so different. And as my advisor said, if you're like, a Ph.D scholar in China, you're encouraged to learn Japanese and Korean as well, to get a deeper understanding of the nuances of words and the cultural connections. (Though if you're a Ph.D scholar in Japan, you're basically required to learn some Chinese.)
