John McCain just gave the best speech of his campaign. No, not because he was conceding and that means my guy won. This speech was the John McCain we used to know. He spoke from the heart and was generous in defeat praising Sen. Obama ( Read more... )

I was thinking this exact thing. Had he campaigned as THIS McCain it would be very different. Excellent speech and I look forward to seeing what he does in this new Senate.

McCain did the right thing at the end, but in all fairness he did run a ruthless campaign and may be remembered for promoting the political fortunes of a totally undeserving politician.

I think John McCain made an unfortunate deal at the beginning of his campaign -- agreeing to say and do anything that his handlers demanded. The price was his integrity.

Finally, last night, he was free to be himself again.

John McCain's biggest mistake was choosing the people who defeated him in 2000 to shape his campaign in 2008. They defeated him again.

How true! And it should have happened this way. There is an old political bromide about the ends not justifying the means.
