Stupidity

I just went to AMV.org for the first time in ages, and found out about thisFucking hell, licensing laws are stupid. -_-''' AMVs don't hurt anyone anymore than fanfiction does. They're harmless...no, they're better than harmless, because a lot of people who see a good AMV set to certain music will then take it upon themselves to buy albums by that ( Read more... )

I don't think they'll be after our icons. (my precious!) The problem with the AMVs, in the mind of the laywers, is that they have the music in them adn that people could essentially download the song. It's not quite the same with icons and such.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that licensing is silly, and that trying to take down videos with the songs in them are silly. But what can you do? Technically, the law is on their side, reguardless of the actual use.

I was more thinking of this information combined with the C&D FF.net received for songfics. Songfics, since they just use the lyrics instead of the actual music, are definitely more comparable to lyrics on icons. So, there is a precedent for it, and it's for the same reason...the licensing. Stupidity. -_-'

I know the law is on their side (at least in the States, where this kind of bullshit tends to crop up most), but I still think it's dumb. ;P Just had to rant on that a bit. *LOL*

Ugh. This is deeply, deeply stupid. Those companies are obviously PARANOID RETARDS.

And yet, in a way, I'm more annoyed with the fan who told them about it. Stupid.

I'm definitely annoyed with the fan, but then at the same time I'm kind of willing to give them the benefit of the doubt...if you read some of Phade's comments further along in the thread and especially in the follow-up discussion (which is here), it sounds like the most likely scenario is that some curious Evanescence fan attempted to contact the band to find out if users of AMV.org had the band's permission to use their songs in videos ( ... )

I know, and it was for the same reason...a C&D on the part of licensers with regard to the use of lyrics without permission of the licensers. Stupid stuff. -_-'

I agree with you plenty, there was this one AMV the fruitbasket gang 'singing along' to the lyrics of it's a small world after all. *shudders*

It's harmless compare to what lies in ff.net.
