I did have everyone surprised, which actually surprised me. I thought it seemed kind of natural, but maybe not? I love Jeff and Shirley together. There is a very interesting dynamic between them that never gets written about, so I thought- what the hell? I'm taking my time with this story, so I had time to devote a whole chapter to them. I generally have a deep belief in Chechov's gun, so I don't put stuff in if it's not going to be explained at some point. Shirley & Andre aren't done giving their thoughts on this whole thing.

It really is surprising that some people are acting like this is already torture for them. I got some bad news for them... I haven't killed anyone or even mortally injured yet. There hasn't been bloodletting or memory wiping or animal slaughter. Is this really that sad? I just want J/A to have to work for it.

Get some sleep, sweetie. Hyde will keep.

I think it is natural, but because writing a good chunk of Jeff/Shirley interaction is not usual for fanfic no one guessed.
I speak for myself but I love that you are taking time with the story, the longer the build-up the more satisfying the eventual payoff is, and what else to look forward to in the summer? plus, a quick fix after the finale and after all development you added, it just would be deus ex machina and wouldn't feel right.

Yay, I had a feeling you don't just put throwaway details in your fic, I always read into things and I'm always worried I might be reading too much into everything but I love when I know I don't just read into things (that sentence got kind of confusing, just go with me XD)

Baby!fic gives me hives. It seems like fabricated drama 97% of the time. Having said that, I have not read any 'Annie is pregnant' fics, so I don't know how gracefully it can be handled with this couple.

I'm following what I think (hope) is a natural progression with this fic and I think it's more the ongoing-ness of it that is making people think it's angstier than it is. I also think it is throwing people that I'm NOT going for the obvious storytelling devices here Annie and Rich immediately hooking up for example). I just hope people stick with it, because I think it could get pretty good. I hope the perceived torture doesn't drive them away...

I honestly love Shirley but I really want to whack her with her big bag. I get that she wants to protect Annie but...argh!
I have to remind myself that the study group doesn't get to see those sweet moments between Jeff and Annie, where they can let their guard down, so to speak.
But it is clear that she sees what the rest of us see too, the Annie of it all, so I'm glad she called Jeff out on that. I just hope she and Jeff realize that Annie and him could work.

I know that Shirley is just being protective of Annie, but sometimes she really does just need to be smacked around a little. I'm hoping she will cone around at some point. She at least seems to have stopped shipping J/B, so woo?
