oh my gosh. this was so perfect! i truly, truly adored it! you really have got such a wonderful grasp on the characters and their motives and interactions. i could definitely seeing the whole party playing out in my mind. i loved that you wrote it so that annie requested that jeff pick out something for her! that was really sweet. and the buildup to the kiss --- him walking her to her car and the back and forth about what her wish was --- the whole setting and dialogue was fantastic. i can undoubtedly say i had shivers when he finally kissed her. the ending was super sweet and has got me wanting more! i'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!
This is now head!canon for me FOREVER. Just...gaahhhhamazing. And appearently I can't write intelligible reviews, so I apologize :P
I just really love the idea of them going to Chuck E Cheese for her 21st birthday - just the perfect Greendale-esque backwardness of her spending her "an official official grown up" birthday in the same place that I had my 7th birthday party...perfect.
That and your characterization is spot on. Good writing to me is when I can effortlessly watch the story play out in my head while reading - and you've achieved that to the nth degree.
Needless to say this is definitely going in my memories. And PLEASE write more. (Please) :D
Wow! So, so good. I love everything about this! Shirley in Mom-mode, not letting Abed and Troy leave the table until they'd eaten had me LMAO! The conversations between Annie and Jeff were so in character, and Annie not wanting to feel pitied or see them pretend care--aww I felt so bad for her. But I do think sometimes that's how Annie feels. She's been picked on and an outsider her whole life so she can't help but feel insecure and that people don't really care about her. The ending was especially perfect, with the kiss and Annie's last words!
This one went from breaking my heart to making me feel all warm and squishy. I also kind of adore how each of these birthday vignettes so far have featured Jeff wearing an askew party hat.
