So, I'm thinking of breaking my Facebook virginity and joining. But I don't want to maintain Yet Another Social Networking Presence, so I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on replacing LiveJournal with Facebook

Since Facebook limits the number of characters for the posts to just a couple of sentences, it makes sense to me to post any lengthy journal entries on LJ and posting short updates on facebook.
I don't really know why any of us are still using LJ. It was innovative in the day, but hasn't really joined up with the whole social web thing. It's just for blogging, and while blogging is great, FB does so much more that the integration is killing off LJ usage.
Like most people who still use LJ, I syndicate everything to the 'Notes' section of FB. I suppose there's probably a lack of public vs private controls on notes, but frankly I don't know how useful that fine control really is to me. Not very, I would say.
Funny enough Tyler and I were just talking about leaving LJ the other day. I have FB, LJ, Linkedin, and Twitter. I only really use FB. I used to have Flikr, too, and while it was good at it's one job, I really can't be bothered to maintain yet another list of friends, etc etc.
As a matter of fact, the longer I go on, the less I want to maintain any of it. Maybe the day to kill off LJ has come.
I second what ttmooney says. Much like friendfeed, facebook can consolidate *everything* you do into one feed. I still like having the separate blogger blog for my journaling (and my home page), and twitter is just fun, but it all goes into my facebook account.
by the way: don't accept any plants, animals, slaves, etc. Don't install any applications until you've hung out for a bit and figured it all out, or the status updates from your friends will be filled with garbage.
I think it's the security thing for me. Also, I still do fandom-y things on LJ that I can't do on facebook or, at least, wouldn't want to. I also like being able to filter and such...I use facebook more like some people use twitter (except not 165894132186x a day).

Where LJ is more for me, I'm okay being moody here, putting out ideas I'm not sure about, it's much more of a private conversation.
It's true about facebook apps, don't accept any, it's a time suck.
Good news everyone is on there so you'll have 50+, 100+ friends right away.
Not sure there any real bad news about it.
