This afternoon at 4:00 we meet with my husband's urologist to discuss  the options for treating his  recently diagnosed prostate cancer. While we are understandably anxious about this, we remain generally optimistic that whatever the recommended treatment, it will be successful. Please keep Jim in your thoughts and prayers. My dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. His doctor said it's a very slow moving disease and he'd probably die of something else by the time it got serious. He lived many more years and finally did die -- of something else. So, if you've got to hear a cancer diagnosis, prostrate is the best one to hear. Hope it works out well for your husband. My thoughts are with you both.

Unfortunately the type of prostate cancer that Jim has is very aggressive although fairly early in onset. There is no evidence of metastasis. The doctor recommends radical prostectomy via robotic surgery bit is referring us to a radiotherapy oncologist for a second opinion.

Interestingly enough, his cousin has had the same type of cancer, perhaps a bit more advanced.

We are proceeding with cautious optimism.

Thank you for your thoughts; they are greatly appreciated.

Hi, Cindy.

The doctor says while the cancer is an aggressive type, he believes it to be potentially curable. His recommendation is radical prostectomy via robotic surgery but he also wants us to see a radiotherapy oncologist for a second opinion. He believes the cancer is confined to the lower portion of the prostate with no evidence of metastasis at this time. While he advises that we do not proceed with our Arctic Circle cruise in August, he sees no reason why we can't spend next week with the kids and grandkids at the beach then proceed with surgery early in August. So, we proceed with cautious optimism.
