So I have gotten sick two weekends in a row! It is a skill. But more to the point, one of the ways I cope with being sick is by reading things. The weekend before last featured me devouring Terry Pratchett's Carpe Jugulum, one of the few Discworld books I still hadn't read, rather than food. And so, some thoughts:

- I think that Carpe Jugulum, ( Read more... )

I loooove the witch books. I haven't read this one, though. Yet.

And I have someone who isn't in Columbus to borrow it from now, so I'll hopefully be reading this shortly! (The fact that a practicing shaman-therapist keeps paperbacks of every Discworld book to date on a shelf in his living room fills me with a glee I can't describe.)

One of my favourite comments about Carpe Jugulum is that it managed to satire the Twilight books before the Twilight books even existed. (A "vegetarian" vampire who spends lots of time with his family develops a fascination with an average girl because his is the only mind he can't read. Of course, Pratchett points out the creepiness behind all this.)

Indeed, this is true! I had a good giggle checking the publication date and thinking of how ahead of things Pratchett was.

Carpe was my first Pratchett EVER! It holds a special place in my heart, in huge part for Agnes, and also for the Old Count and his traditions, because I'm an absolute sucker for Narrative Causality.

The Old Count is pretty satisfying (though not as much as Agnes).
