Hot and fresh out the kitchen.

I must confess that I misjudged Pat's determination to go to Italy. When I telephoned her this afternoon, she asked, "How would you feel about going to Italy with me?" (One doesn't say no to a question like that.) As it turns out, she's already planning the trip. In June, we're flying from London to either Rome or Florence (she hasn't decided yet ( Read more... )

It's true: you do have freakishly long arms. Amazing that you don't trip over them when you walk!

But your tidy Baked to the Future pun and casserole/50s sitcom awareness, along with an effortless use of denouement, makes up for the distraction of those wildly swinging arms.

Of course, they do make for a fine impromptu fan in hot weather, those arms.

Oh, sometimes I do.

I'll be sure to make use of them when I'm in London without air conditioning. Not that it's all that hot there yet.

(Your comment really made me laugh, by the way.)

Wait wait wait. No air conditioning?

What have I gotten myself into? Next you're going to tell me that cold beer isn't really big over there.

(Good, it's all in fun, Lanky.)

Well, it's not usually that hot. Right now, for instance, it's in the 60s and 70s. It seems like there's a week or two every summer when it gets very hot, but otherwise the summer weather tends to be pleasant. Even so, more places are getting air conditioning now (the underground, however, does not have it), so I doubt you'll suffer too much, if at all.

I'm going to have to remember who to blame when I have R. Kelly stuck in my head for the rest of the day. :)

Oh no! I apologize!

I have that song stuck in my head frequently, actually. It's just so catchy.

Hello Elspeth,

Fancy stumpling across your journal. It's Jesus. I used to ride the school bus with you (and sometimes Ned).

It's nice to see you've taken to eating flowers.

Hi! Of course I remember you! Sometimes I still think about that inside-out umbrella that we saw lying in front of the school one morning. It's hard to believe that's still funny, but it is. (This might sound a bit silly if you have no recollection of that.)

You're moving to France? I remember when you developed your passion for the language, so that's exciting news.
