Eek! Good heavens, Elspeth!

Though yes, while what you describe sounds like a horrible and terrifying ordeal, it could have been worse. What if you had fainted at a grocery store? Or a bank? That would have been embarrassing and not a good story.

It is, however, good to hear that you managed to get home in one piece, and even to look back on the terrifying situation with some degree of equilibrium. I rather suspect the Elspeth that I knew three years ago (has it really been that long? I'm sorry for not being around more often!) would not have been quite able to manage that.

I certainly know I wouldn't be able to. Though then again, I'd be suffering under the added burden of suspicion -- what's this? I fainted, I woke up again, and now they're telling me I bought a fairly expensive corset? That doesn't sound right!

It really was lucky where it happened. If I had left the store like I wanted to, I would have fainted in the middle of Conduit Street, and what would have happened then? It seems worse to hit my head on the concrete than to chip my chin on a breast cancer donation container. So I'm glad it was there.

I think I could have managed it a few years ago, but perhaps not with as much assurance. As it is, I was still crying and shaking. I haven't been able to recover yet, but perhaps I would have been more mortified three years ago.

The thought of you buying a corset and fainting really amused me, though. What would all those women have thought?

Goodness! I wish I could do something, but obviously I can't, so I will just say that I am mentally bringing you lovely teas and slices of cake. You make sure that you're all right, missy!

Oh, thank you! Tea and cake are wonderful remedies for distress. I'm making sure to take it easy, perhaps for the next couple of days.

Good grief, Elspeth! I hope you're feeling better now. I once almost passed out *because* of a corset, after a very serious dance number, but sadly never in or because of a corset shop. Maybe you should carry around some orange juice with you for the next few days. If it was low blood sugar for some reason, and it starts to happen again, OJ is one of the fastest ways to get it back up where it needs to be.

I didn't know that! Thank you. I will keep the orange juice in mind (and it sounds rather appealing at the moment, too!). The newest theory is that my blood pressure might have been too low, which seems like a reasonable assumption, but low blood sugar might have had something to do with it.

I'm feeling somewhat better this evening, but I think I'll at least be weak and a little dizzy until tomorrow.

Frankly, I think that would only be a last resort.

...straight out of one of our stories. Minus the chin part. We'd never have someone receive an injury on their chin. Their wrist, maybe, or their neck. Or their upper thigh. But those things require particular positioning.
Seriously now, I'm so sorry for what happened! I do hope you're feeling better now. I wish I had been there to escort you home.

I was thinking the same thing! I was explaining the Theory of Injuries in Our Fictional Characters to Andy the other day. I told him that a broken foot was definitely not the sort of thing our characters would ever have.

Speaking of that, I have something I need to email you, courtesy of my marvelous boyfriend. You'll like it.

And I wish you had been there, too, for more reasons than just that. Corsetiere, after all!
