You don't claim to have attended Harvard or proclaim your brilliance as a great polymath of our time. I was speaking of two such characters in particular who no doubt cannot pronounce Bakunin either. The difference is that they would insist that their pronunciation was correct, or even how people in-the-know pronounce it.
