So last Sunday, Ashley and I did the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk in Battery Park. It was supposed to be a 12k walk and it turned out to be a bit longer.... We took pictures all the way along and so here's the whole story of the day.
We got to Battery Park at 8.30 am. I know. They had breakfast and music playing and there was just an hour and a half to sign in, get tshirts, hang out. They also had cartoon characters walking around so naturally I took pictures with them. Shut it.
Ash was surprise, for some reason, that our team name was on the list of...team names. So I acted shocked. What? I'm an actor.
They were giving out yellow tickets to get your shirts and while I apparently wanted to eat the tickets, Ashley was clearly confused by them.
Then there was a short opening ceremony and Mary Tyler Moore spoke and cut the ribbon and we were off.
There were, I dunno, a couple people at the walk...
We passed these on the way and I thought they were interesting? Not sure why I took pictures...
Us at the 1k marker. Look how happy we are!
2k. Still happy.
3k. Happyish.
4k. Me pretending I'm still happy, Ash dropping the act all together.
WHAT?? IT'S THE 5K SIGN. IT'S NOT LIKE WE FOUND EVERY SIGN BUT THAT ONE AND THEN JUST USED A SUBWAY SIGN FOR THE 5 MARKER... IT'S REAL, IT IS....
After walking through lower Manhattan we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. I'd never been on the bridge before but it's really amazing.
Shots of and from the bridge. It had been really hot and humid all week and into the weekend and we lucked out and got really beautiful weather and really clear skies.
Happy again at 6k, because we're on the bridge.
Me trying to be tough and macho cause we made it to 7k.
REST STOP.
Creepy man on stilts at the the rest stop...
...and popcorn for nourishment...
...and apples (I killed that apple)...
...and this band playing. They were hella good.
8k. Happyish once more because we were in beautiful Brooklyn Heights.
9k. We're tired.
10k. Exhausted.
11k. Dying.
12k. Us calling a taxi cause there's no way in hell we're walking back. Oh that's right, did I mention that the 12k walk ended in Brooklyn? But then we were still in Brooklyn... So we had to walk back across the bridge anyway and back to Battery Park... leaving us with roughly a 20k walk.
Back in Battery Park we found the sign that really gives me meaning to my whole life. Because I, too, "answer to a higher authority."
Me close to passing out as we crawl back.
Ash in no better shape.
At the end, somebody had taken our team sign and Ash wanted it. So this nice security officer cut out the name from the big group sign and gave it to us.
Pretty much sums up the day. Exhausted but had a blast. The walk raised I don't even know how many hundreds of thousands of dollars all for Juvenile Diabetes research. If you want to donate, there's still time and they need all the help they can get. Comment on here or email me and I'll let you know how to donate. That's all for now. It was a pretty good day, other than my shins burning for three days after and falling asleep in the middle of the show that afternoon. But I'm glad I was there.
