Oblivion newbie

Has any one got any advice for Oblivion? I am new to the Elder scrolls type games and it looks interesting. I bought it the other day but could do with some advice for getting started or good mods to add in.

Cheers

Wish I could help - I bought the game when it came out, only to discover recently that the reason it doesn't work is my processor on my computer is too crap for it.

Silly me.

To start with, getting started wise, follow the main plot line.

You don't need any add-ins or mods for a bit really.

Has lots of useful faqs and guides. Its worth reading up on how levelling works, its a bit odd.

Suffice to say you probably don't want the skills you are going to be using lots to be your major skills.

I've not done Oblivion, but have played the previous ones, and I am assuming it'll be similar.
I'd suggest you treat it like a lrp event, just potter round and talk to people, and do whatever interests your char. And join Guilds.
There are main plot quests, but there's shed loads of mostly optional side quests (which are usually useful, financially or otherwise, unless its a set up), guilds to join, skills to improve etc.
How you deal with characters affects their and their friends attitude towards you. And characters will lie if they don't like you.
And using guild/temple resources is handy, free beds and some equipment and cheaper training if you're a member.
And no-one objects to you practising a few spells in the dorms.
