Happy Halloween!

this year-yay i have not noticed an over-abundance of anti-halloween sentiment like there has been other years, i think maybe people are kind of returning to middle of the road enjoyment of it. i did however notice that one of those religious themed horror places has shown up in omaha-beware the consequences of sin! oh i know there are parents that ( Read more... )

our version of halloween includes a fairy. If you sort your goodies on Nov 1 and pick out your favorites and leave the rest on the door stop she leaves a cool prize for you.

We do this so Gavin can cash in his dairy laiden goodies but not be completely cut short. Also, at the end of the night tonight we will have done 4 trick or treat sessions. One at Disney, one at Sea World, one at the Nashville Zoo, and tonight. So, yeah. Kinda over kill, double so since I saw the cavities in Gavin's baby teeth. :(

I think celebrating God is as important as facing fears, and the celebrations at this time are just all children screaming at once "I'm NOT afraid of the dark!"

i have no problems with that. you have legitimate reasons with gavin, (btw i'd be one of those people who would call you specifically asking you what gavin could have for treats and making him a special baggie and yes to be fair i'd make fiona her own baggie too), and i know the sugar overload is another one. but i was thinking about the kids who only got to go trick or treating once, like my brother and i used to, and its still a case of let the kids have their treats. but mom did ours sensibly, she let us a have a little each day, not all at once, until it was gone or we got tired of it. and "the favorites" thing makes sense to me also. but ive heard of parents doing the "you can have a few pieces and then the rest goes after tonight" thing-with no trade-in reward. i just sat there stunned when i heard about that sort of thing, i just dont get that. why let them get excited, go treating, and then take part of the fun away afterwards? i mean if you have that much "concern" as a parent, let them treat at just a few places and keep it ( ... )
