So a few nights ago we heard something in the backyard, just some rustling from the plants and things at first, then some noises followed. So I went out to see what it was...and at first I didnt see anything around the grass but as I went over to the garden area (which is fenced off) I saw it in there! just waiting, and still as a statue, so I went ( Read more... )

awesome!

it looks more ratty than the possums in Australia. I love watching them at night run along the telephone wires. Although I was scared witless a few years ago because this big male one ran halfway down a telephone pole and HISSED at me. I assume i had walked between him and another male who were fighting but it was still SCARY!

Excellent pictures. Nice of it to stay still for so long!

Yeah over here people often think they are in the rat family but they're distant relatives to the ones over there in Australia.

Yikes! We've heard some over here in the bushes before making noises like that but the ones here in the US are easily frightend and get scared of humans, so its rare to see them. This one stayed there completely still until it got used to me, and after that it only moved its head around so it was definitely nice to get some good pictures of it!

Indeed they are! We've often heard them around here and one time saw one quickly go along the wall but this was the first time one was right there where it could easily be seen.
