I am buried in crippling debt and will be paying it off until I die.

If you study in a lucrative field and get a very well paying job, you could be okay. I know two people who have paid off their loans. (Two our of many, but still two.)

Who would you borrow the money from? Are the banks that do it, or special organisations for it?

We don't have to pay for uni but we don't get any support from the state (or just a tiny little amount that doesn't really help), so it's either getting money from parents/family or getting a job, mostly part time, but I know people who worked full time while studying and it was brutal.

I can't imagine having to work full time while studying. Wouldn't lectures and work hours end up clashing?

In the US, a lot of people take student loans. Many schools also offer some financial aid and work/study, where you work for the school part time and get some money. People often take a long time to pay off their loans after schooling is done.

it's such a ridiculous system in my eyes. Borrowing money to get an education, so you can get a job to pay back to money you borrowed to get an education...
