Doctor Who: Fires of Pompeii

Apr 13, 2008 21:01

This was honestly one of the best episodes of new Doctor Who I have ever seen.

- I loved all the Latin in-jokes. Also, sounding like you're Welsh when you speak in Latin.
- "Don't be clever in Latin!"
- "Tardis, Time Lord, yes!" "Donna, human, No!"
- The homage to Mary Poppins!
- "I'm Spartacus." "So am I."
- The whole prophecy scene was great, I'm intrigued as to what Donna has on her back and I loved the sneak reference to Rose. (Or whom I assume is Rose!)
- The Doctor's anguish at having to cause Pompeii.
- Donna pushing the button with the Doctor, honestly sharing the blame and the burden was such a lovely moment.
- The Doctor's anguish over Gallifrey.
- The scene where Donna was yelling for them to go to the mountains and tried to save the little boy was so heartbreaking, as well as the sight of the family cuddled up together in fear.
- Donna begging for one person to be saved.
- Donna and the Doctor as household gods!

Donna is turning out to be a wonderful companion. She's a lot of what I wanted Martha to be in a way. But she has something about her - probably maturity - that makes her so wonderful. Sharing the Doctor's burden, without needing to be looked after and her emotion at asking the Doctor to save just one... Catharine Tate is a wonderful actress.

Excellent. 9/10
