Trouble is thats the attitude that turns the country into a country that never wins a medal, if you tell them all its ok if they don't win then they don't push themselves hard enough because they don't have to win to keep the country happy. Thats why countries like Russia and America do so well, America because the athletes have to be the best of the best to even get to the olympics cos there is that many of them and places like russia because second isn't good enough. That's why we have been loosing out and being so pathetic previously, its the idea that in schools and such its not the winning that counts but the taking part because if we have winners we might upset the loosers, it kills our competative-ness and then eventually we don't get seconds anymore either...we just struggle to qualify at all. The countries that are happy with one bronze are the ones who don't have the resources to provide a better team, we have no excuse, if we cared enough we could support our teams better but it would be no use if the athletes don't

I'm sorry but I disagree. It's fine to strive for gold, I fully accept that that is what we should be doing and trying our best - I made the point that is what the Olympics is about. I just think we should be more gracious in defeat and not stand on the podium looking pissed off and upset because that reflects really badly on us as a country. We need to learn to accept that Silver is a bloody good achievement too
