Books: "Slaughterhouse-Five"

I wasn't real sure what to expect, but I knew this was a book that I "should have" read a while ago. It was one of the many books in my To Be Read pile purely by how many people are surprised that I hadn't already read it. Definitely a good change of pace from what I normally read, yet it fit in with the styles I really like a lot ( Read more... )

If you liked Schlachthof-funf, you should try some more of Vonnegut's stuff.
I particularly liked "Cat's Cradle": it is a parable about power and the consequences of seeking it too vigorously. And if you haven't heard of Kurt's pseudo-religion (Bokononism) described therein, then you're in for a real treat. I find myself comparing it to "real" religions to it every time some JWs or Mormons try to foist theirs on me. Maybe it's just me, but I even find his pseudo-cosmology has some attractive elements that work better for me than Einstein.
