Sounded like an interesting conversation, sorry I missed it.

Question in response to your idea that there be separate holidays... Wouldn't having a single holiday be good to promote tolerence of other beliefs?

Actually, I don't think it would be a good way to promote tolerance of others beliefs. Downplaying the differences isn't the same as tolerance of differences. There is nothing wrong with differences. Plus, once you start saying everyone has to celebrate this one single holiday, you are saying everyone has to conform to that ideal. And anyone who wants to continue to celebrate the holiday associated with their community, whichever one that may be, suddenly becomes an outside. And then you just have another type of intolerance formed. Truly the only way to promote tolerance is education and to celebrate the differences of each.
At least, that is my humble opinion.

I think I kinda left my idea a bit to open ended... It's similar to giving the greeting "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas/Happy Kwanza/ect". How the individual would (or would not) celebrate the holiday would be left to their discretion and the concept being that as there is the central focus of good will toward others underline each religious and not religious part of the celebration then others maybe able to accept that the traditions can be varried and that's okay.

Or maybe I'm naive in the hope that people actually are basically good. *shrug*
