Mr. Mayor never told the court about the trip, as he was required to do 48 hours in advance of any travel. The prosecutor and the judge both said they learned of the trip from that Channel 7 muckraker Steve Wilson:

From the Detroit News:

"Wilson aired a story last week that showed Kilpatrick making a trip to Windsor on July 23. Wilson then went to 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles, who is overseeing Kilpatrick's bond hearing, and asked him if he knew about Kilpatrick's cross-border journey.

"Giles did not, Wilson said, and neither did the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office."

Not sayin that Gile's ain't grandstanding, that seems to be SOP in D politics.

However, I'm thinkin that Kwame's little tiff with the PoPo on the 24th when he shoved the deputy may have been him thinking they were coming for him because of his unauthorized trip on the 23rd. Methinks the Mayor didth protest too much?

Jamie = big fan of due process. Praise America. But where is this guy's honor or grace? What I find myself starting to consider is a.) that we need a fast track at various judicial levels for people in seats of power (like mayors, governors, and presidents - many of which seemt to have been in trouble recently), that is, people who's responsibilities have a broad and immediate effect on the regions and people they govern, and/or b.) that any elected official could be required to activate a pro temp back-up while their fast track to the courts was in progress - i.e. to free them up to focus on clearing their name, and prevent them from dragging their constituency into the whole mess ( ... )
