So last week I was awaken by a phone call from my cousin who is planning her wedding.  She said that she was thinking about who to get to officiate the ceremony and she thought of me.  Flattering though this was I am not ordained and therefore not qualified to perform the wedding rites.  Those who know me well know that I’m very spiritual ( Read more... )

I know *several* people that get ordained thru Universal Life Church and perform wedding ceremonies all the time. It is legal, it is for real, and you will sign that marriage certificate, oh, and it's completely free. Thinking of a few of the Rev.'s that I do know, they drink, they smoke, they curse, they do Lord knows what, but they are some of the best people around. Check it out, and I bet you'd perform a fantastic ceremony :D :

This is on their first page:

As a ULC (Universal Life Church) minister, you can officiate one wedding ceremony or you can make weddings, funerals, baptisms, house blessings, etc. your business. You can even start your own ministry. The Universal Life Church is interfaith and non-denominational.

We have, online, free training for ministers, an online, one-year seminary program, where you can receive a diploma to enhance your knowledge and your credibility, and a monk program.

While you don’t have to purchase anything from the ULC to gain the legal benefits, entitlements and respect, we do offer a wide variety of materials to assist you in your ministry and/or business.

i say go for it, david. i didn't grow up around any religion, i saw a lot of crazy shit and knew some crazy people. but everyone was good. and i like to think that i turned out ok anyway.

i find that the really uppity righteous church folk tend to be incredibly full of shit. yes they gossip, yes they judge, and yes they are evil fucks.

i trust you, david. i think you're a good guy. you're a better candidate to be ordained than most of the perverts and racists who get ordained all the time.

Whatever religion you're going to find extremists. I new a lady who converted to another religion because she saw a nun take a swig of beer. But there are people like my parents who have no problem inviting a priest to our house for food and a beer. Plus the bible doesn't say that drinking is bad period, it's bad if it gets excessive. If only people remembered that.

Heck, even Jesus converted water to wine at the wedding in Caanan and they all got shit-faced.

This is from a lost bible passge:

"Yay, I say unto thee; I am the son of God, Jesus Rappin', Tappin', Cappin' Hoppin' Christ. I left my pogo stick at home, but I have converted this water to wine. I say unto thee now, drinketh this wine and get drunketh. Drink and vomiteth, then drink more. Get shit-facedeth and have a good time. Enjoy life for we only live once."
