I've been keeping up with Tara's LJ.  I'm wondering with the giant statue, the mix of new and old technologies and the ability to move the island... what part Atlantis might play here.  i don't see it interfering with any of the other theories... dead, alive, heaven, hell, etc.

They reference more religions than Buddhism, though. There's a lot of Egyptian imagery and god references as well as a decent serving of Judeo-Christian. I think applying any singular religious system as an over-arching answer is too limiting. It's pieces of all of them.
