Well, I would have posted little snippet updates over the weekend, but my phone's web browser kept saying "MSN mobile is not currently available" or something like that. Mfrrgh. What good be this newfangled technologie if it worketh not? (Why yes, I was reading Quicksilver over the weekend. Why do you ask? XD )
Despite doing a fairly decent Raistlin impression all weekend what with coughing and feeling like pure crap and all, I had a pretty good time. ^_^ After sleeping most of the day Friday, I threw together a very ghetto Puchiko outfit (recognizable only 'cause of the hairdo and hat) to pick Nyx up from work and have dinner at Cici's (mmm, cheap pizza). Home, shower, spend an hour TRYING to get my hair into some semblance of straight before giving up and squishing myself into my Cyberland Kami outfit to go to April's party. The Kami plushie and I had much fun at said party, but if Nyx had told me sooner how bored she was I would have taken her home and come back by myself. ^^;; April's Man is a highly decent metal guitarist, and he, a bassist friend, and Oscar from Hastings on drums were jammin' very loudly all night. ^__^ I wished (a) I knew even half the songs they played well enough to sing them and (b) I had enough voice to do so. *lol* They had random dvds playing in the living room (in b&w and effectively on mute, couldn't hear anything over the band), and I'd brought Dir en grey's Gauze dvd... which went oddly well with the band, and I got to introduce more people to the wonderful world of j-rock. XD And whoever thought of making caramel apple party trays should be SAINTED. Dee-lish. ^__^<3
I seem to be catching much random live music lately. I count this as a good thing. *nodnod*
Saturday morning was Get Stuff Done Time. Title Wave to trade books, Library to get new card, CompUSA to pick up repaired and upgraded computer. ^_^ I missed that poor old b0x. She's slightly less pathetic now, with a new 20GB hard drive and a cd burner. Also picked up a wireless router and appropriate card for the laptop, so the two are now finally networked. Once I get cable internet hooked back up in the apaato, I will be a happy camper, yes indeedy. ^_^ Already burned a couple of cds to temporarily replace stolen ones: merveilles (to which I added a few happy bonus tracks) and MARS. But ye GODS does it take a long-ass time to transfer mp3s between the two computers. *lol*
So, um, back on topic, spent most of saturday afternoon napping and then trying to get the computer to display correctly again (which ended up meaning downloading drivers at my parents' house). There was gaming group that night, but I was still feeling pretty crappy and I reeeeeally didn't feel like subjecting my lungs to the cigarette smoke from Scott and Luke (and poor Cadence is still practically catatonic in shock after seeing the half-eaten corpses of his entire band, including his beloved Toya *GLARES at Luke* damn zombies...). At about 10 pm, Nyx and I got to talking about food, decided we were hungry, and set off to find a restaurant that was open, had chicken strips, and would take checks. You know what we discovered after driving around for the better part of an hour? NOBODY who's open at 10 pm on Saturday night will take checks! Boo!
I should have repeated the pattern of the previous two days and slept most of Sunday as well, but I had too much to do before Harvest Dinner: get rolls from Great Harvest, pickup the Karaoke Setup of DOOM from my parents' house, print pictures of the plushies I made, set the Cyberland Kami costume up for display, print a new copy of my lyrics, etc, etc. Great Harvest just happens to be right next to Page One Too, so I sold some books and bought some manga, and just as I was carrying my box of rejects toward the door, you won't BELIEVE what I spotted.
MALICE MIZER. Itan Shinmon. The creepy-ass photobook of suicide and DOOM.
"Ohmigod!" *DROPS box of stuff, falls to her knees, scoops up the book from the bottom shelf incredulously, FLOATS back to the register on a cloud of shoujo sparkles* ^______________^
Certainly just about the LAST thing I'd ever expect to see at Page One Too, but I think I know how it got there. Either David or Cym must've sold the copy I gave them. But that's okay, 'cause it's mine now. MIIIINE! MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAA~~~!!!
*koff*
So, um, back on topic. Again. Harvest Dinner had wonderful food, as always, and I got to see many people I hadn't seen in quite some time. There was a great variety of Talent in the Show, including several of the children. ^_^ I went on after the guy who played accordion and sang opera (who knew?!) - talk about a tough act to follow! *lmao* It was a good thing I wasn't doing Gekka no yasoukyoku, 'cause I had like NO VOICE. I barely managed to get through Kimi no tame ni dekiru koto, with far more microphone gain than I ever normally use, and I certainly didn't do it justice. Either the people at New Life are exceptionally kind, or impressed with me for some reason, or I sounded better than I thought I did (pure crap), because they were still complementing me and saying how much they love my voice. *is CONFUSED* Several people wondered why I wasn't wearing the costume for the show. I finally had to explain that the song that went with the costume was most definitely NOT appropriate for the venue (getting away with Vanilla last year was one thing, but Illuminati would just be WRONG). Oh, and I found another budding j-rock fangirl/cosplayer among Pastor Ed's clan! Waffo!
I'm glad I didn't go with my parents to Phoenix for NASCAR this year - it was great to have three days OFF to get some rest and make some progress on getting over this damn cold, and I really didn't want to miss Halloween and Harvest Dinner. Now if only the wind would stop blowing out there... *shiver* >_
