On a lighter note...

Sep 11, 2009 10:30

I haven't forgotten what day it is, but I figured maybe some of y'all could use a chuckle amidst the poignancy, and this is truly one of the funniest things I've seen this year. At Dragon*Con, they tried to break the record for the largest # of people doing the dance from Michael Jackson's "Thriller." I'll bet that NOWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD do they ( Read more... )

Heheh, yep, that's me! (My hair always gives me away.) Fellow AoME'rs Erin is the leaf covered person to my left, Nadine is the zombie quidditch player to my right, with Berg as Joker next to her, and behind them you can catch glimpses of Merry and captnsparrow.

We had SUCH FUN! :) And repeated the whole thing at the Yule Ball later that night.

I'm glad it turned out to be fun! Y'all looked appropriately zombified. ;-) I thought The Joker looked familiar--didn't he dress that way for the ALS walk? But like I said, I just LOSE at recognizing people from photos. I love your costume--that color is good on you. (But you look awesome in damn near anything, anyway.)

I'll bet it was a riot at the Yule Ball. I hope somebody got video of THAT!!!! Sort of like "Sean of the Dead" meets "Harry Potter." ;-)

Update: You can see captnsparrow a lot better in THIS video. Boy can get his groove on, can't he? ;-)

And tell me: WHAT is the gender of the individual in the cheerleader costume leading the dancers from the stage? I canna figure it out!!!!

The only thing that would have made it funnier would have been if the Lips Down on Dixie "Frankenfurter" had been up there on the stage leading everybody in full drag, though perhaps that would have been a bit much for the Guinness folks. And I still just laugh like an idiot every time I watch that nun swinging "her" wimple around after the dance. :D

Dragon*Con is basically an entire weekend of this sort of insanity. You should come sometime!

Brilliant! They must have rehearsed for hours to get it so co-ordinated. :))

They announced that they'd be trying to break the record a couple of months ahead of time, and they posted sign-up sheets and links to videos of people teaching the dance, complete with verbal instructions. "Left! Right! Shoulder jerk!" etc. :-) So folks who were serious about it had time to get the basics down on their own before they ever showed up at con. I wanted to be in on it, but as per normal, was too sick. :P

So that's how they did it. I wondered.

The Burger King dude was funny just because it looked so funny to see him with that big grin in a Thriller dance!

I had to look at it again to spot the nun. :D

I hope they made it into the record book. They did a great job considering there were so many people in it.

I love the Burger King, and that guy who basically looks like a giant meatball wrapped in rags. You can't really see him in this video, but there's a guy in a very realistic "Alien" costume (the actual alien, not one of the humanoids) in the middle of all this, and guys in kilts--you name it, it's probably in there SOMEWHERE. :-)

At the end, when the "nun" is waving his/her/its wimple in the air like a lariat at a rodeo, I just crack up every time.

They've submitted the video to the official record folks. Apparently it's not enough to just have that many people on site doing the dance--there's details like how many seconds the music played and how many cameras there were and a half-dozen other things that normal, sane people would never think of. But I hope they get the record, because the planners spent so *many* hours on it.

You want a good chuckle? Go to the Thriller!Con site and read some of the threads, esp. this one about the perils of dancing in costume. Apparently lots of people tried it at home in their full outfits and ( ... )
