Let's Talk About Sawyer

So... my corner of fandom's relationship with Sawyer is complicated. Always has been. He's kind of a complicated guy. No, I don't neccesarily mean that in a good way, Sawyer, but not neccesarily in a bad one either. But I will admit, he's really good at playing with us.

It's still easier to forgive him than Jack.

You. Are. STRANGE. O.o

*laughs for like five minutes straight*

You KNOW I'm strange, girl. ;)

But... it is. In a really fucked-up way, he respects her enough to use her like that. He doesn't think she's going to break, he's not going to peevishly ignore her when she doesn't do what he wants - he finds a way of getting her to do what he wants without her even realizing it, and the fact that he pulled it off shows that he has an intimate understanding of how Kate thinks and reacts. Can you imagine Jack trying to manipulate Kate? Can you imagine her not noticing? Jack thinks she ought to do what he says. Sawyer knows she has no reason in hell why she should. So he's not stupid enough to expect her to, and in a weird way that's how he respects her. He doesn't expect her to lower herself for his convenience - instead he raises his standards to meet her.

Yeah, it's messed up. It's Sawyer. ;)
