My life is a mess right now. Yesterday, halfway during my Proficiency V class, I broke down in tears. I believe that I managed to hide it for most of the others, as we were all working in small groups on debating skills. Luckily the study advisor teaches that course, and when he noticed my condition we agreed that I'd leave class and come see him ( Read more... )

I think it's not just about what you WANT to do or what you think you NEED to do, but also about what you CAN actually do. I don't think you (or indeed anyone) can actually manage 50-55 ECTS in one semester. That's double the normal load! There's a reason you normally only do 30, or maybe 40-45 maximum, but 50-55 ECTS in one semester, that's like trying to cram an entire year in one semester, and you're already on the verge of a nervous breakdown now, so imagine what a heavy semester like that will do. I think you'll also need to chat with Hans to see which courses you can realistically manage in the second semester and which you can't.

You're already stressed now, and unless you actually do take it easier, you could end up with a burn-out that could leave you unable to do anything at all, and that's something we all want to avoid.

I hope you can get some more time with the psych, because if it's that beneficial, you need it.

Oh, I'm afraid you misunderstood - the 55 ECTS aren't for just this year's second semester, but for next year's as well. No way I'll be able to manage 55 ECTS in one semester! :o

See, I was wondering what on Earth you were thinking with that plan, but this makes more sense.

Oh, I hope everything turns out alright. Maybe you do need a break from school. When I was completing my bachelor's, I often felt that way.

Just lean on Ewout, that's what they're there for. =)

Sometimes it's just fine to take a break and do only those things that make you feel happy. Taking a half year's sabbatical may just make you feel better. And don't worry about the after-effects of taking a half year study break. I took a 2 years break and it felt so good returning back to college! -M
