I don't know if I will even run a 5K but I want to be able to, you know? And I HATE running so I'm not sure why I want to do this other than it's a free way to get my ass in shape.

Sounds like me. :( I'm getting ready to start going back the gym on Monday to get rid of all the me that I'm ready to get rid of. I plan on replacing the missing me with nothing except lean muscle that I will flex menacingly at my husband. I like to think he will be suitably impressed.
