There was a comment on someone's LJ:

"It is done. For god's sake, someone get me a drink"...

it was credited to ??? on finishing the Domesday Book.

Who???

I have the Alecto complete translation sitting here (love my local Borders...) and it's not there, either in Great Domesday or Little Domesday.

The quote was said *about* the Domesday Book; that doesn't mean it was written into the book.

I was going for full pedant points by saying whereever the quotation was originally seen, it wasn't to be found by tracking back into Domesday itself-- which is, admittedly, a valid if somewhat annoying answer to the original question.

I wish I could say WHOSE LJ I had seen it on...someone had written in response to a posting. I wanted to save the quote to "attach" to something that I will be finishing in a few months...it seemed so "appropo"...lol.

"It is done. For the love of God, somebody get me a drink"

-words purportedly said by Rufus, the head scribe in charge of the Domesday Book

It was a response to my most recent posting. Just cause I know you will continue to drive yourself crazy until you know which LJ it was on ;)
