Desperately seeking set theory

If anyone understands the axiom of separation and, more particularly, how it resolves the barber paradox and can explain about it in the next half hour or so, I'd be ever so grateful. Barber paradox follows ( Read more... )

I suppose it being a lady barber is right out, huh? That is my Kobayashi Maru answer to this question, anyway.

But...the barber both cuts his own hair, AND has the barber cut his hair. So...it doesn't not work.

Yeah, but he only cuts the hair of people who don't cut their own hair. Being a person who is cutting his own hair, HE CANNOT CUT HIS OWN HAIR OW PARADOX.

Well, sure, if you wanna look at it like that. Or you can be all obtruse about it, and say "He doesn't cut his own hair. The barber cuts it!"
