4.05 Freddie

I'm not sure how they've managed it, but I honestly don't know where I stand on this episode. They've taken away my ability to form opinions!

Cut for 4.05 spoilers )

Yay, a supportive voice on the Freddie front. I always felt he had something sadder about him than theothers - Effy and Cook might be more tragic and doomed, but Freddie's basically just a crap life and is still going on.

Cook and Freddie's friendship continues to be weirdly compelling.

If by that you mean awesome and sweet and (a little) gay ... then yes.

Effy ... bleh bleh pretty eyes bleh. Go back to being mysterious please.

Will Young was awesome, don't diss. Only good thing to come out of reality TV.

They've really stepped up the production (I think that's what I mean) for this series, there are like innumerable gorgeous shots and amazing colour contrasts and shit (see also the sky in the famous roof scene).

Yeah, I think they explained a lot of why he is so mopey and why he was so infatuated with Effy and how he thinks he can 'save' her. I thought he was clearly trying so hard and I had a lot of sympathy for him (which is a new feeling for me!)

I think I've already said that Effy has done not much bar annoy me this season. We'll see how they deal with her story line in the last 3 eps, but so far she's dropped pretty far in the "character's I like" stakes.

I like Will Young, it's just the character that was crap and tedious. I mean, what would Michael say? STFU councilor, my girlfriend is a suicidal depressive, and you're about to kick me out of college. I have real problems over here, who gives a crap what Michael thinks.

And I agree, what they've lost in story lines and characterisation, they've gained in prettiness (or to use the more technical term, I think you're right with production). I'd rather the other stuff if it was a straight choice, but there we have it!

The prettiness does mean that the shitty bits go by smoothly so when the good writing does re-appear we can enjoy it.

I think I was just happy to see Will really. He wasn't a great character - he was no moustachey lawer guy like Cook had - but I could live with him.

JJ plus girlfriend should be good times though, and hopefully we'll get to see some more of fun-happy Tommo.
