4.06 JJ

I do love JJ, like fierce, you know? And the ep was really nice, Skins back at its best type TV in terms of the tone that it held the whole way through and I'm tearing my hair out that the whole series can't be like this (with maybe a bit more development for other characters).
Cut for 4.06 spoilers )

s4, jj gets locked on

I think this was most like Panda's ep from last series - a bit stupid in places and a bit throwaway in others but it all holds together and is just bloody sweet.

JJ's dad, having been out of our sight for 18 months, turns out to be pretty useless and overwhelmed but just completely lovely. Doesn't really get all this medical business, but he thinks his boy'll win through in the end.

And Cook in a sack, now there's an entrance. I keep waiting for them to do something to ruin him and then when they don't I remember that they are fucking class writers. Everything he does makes me love him more and he keeps on showing hidden depths. And his use of that ukulele was the best modesty-saving move since the Chilis came up with this:

I'm not sure they could ruin Cook. Not possible. Jack wouldn't let it happen. Everything he does just makes me love him more - THIS ( ... )

I think you're right about Jack, it'd all fit under the title of Cook-ness somehow.

True that we didn't really learn much about what's going on with everyone else, but sometimes screentime is good in itself. Like Naomi's bit - it's rubbish because as you said they haven't developed at all in 2 eps but, that aside, I think Lily really did show that Naomi just doens't know how to connect with Emily anymore, that she's in no place to call her out on what she's doing but if she doesn't then it'll just keep happening. Basically, the scenes that weren't focused on JJ weren't wasted, even if they weren't as good as they could be ( ... )

the scenes that weren't focused on JJ weren't wasted, even if they weren't as good as they could be. Oh I completely agree with this, and I think there could have been more of them, because they weren't wasted at all.

Lol, I realise that this post is actually quite whiny, but in reality this ep for me came just behind Cook over the season so far. I'm more moaning about the season as a whole being disappointing. Individually I find all the eps to stand pretty well. Like, every ep I've enjoyed at least a reasonable amount and some a lot, but I'm just finding that they don't fit together, you know? So, I'm not holding out much hope that they can tie off the endings because I don't think they've created season long story lines in the first place!
