Fuck you for life, JB. Yeah, pretty much. I don't really know how he managed to get away with this, surely BE has enough experience to hold him back a bit? My overriding feeling is whatever, I just want it to be over now!

I... yeah. All of this, exactly.

At this point, I don't really give a shit what happens in the finale -- I'm just hoping that Freddie being bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat doesn't also kill fandom in one, as the characters deserve SO MUCH BETTER, and you lot could do series 4 far better than JB could ever hope to.

I don't really give a shit what happens in the finale This. Very much so. It's a shame, because in theory I still feel very much for the characters, but I don't trust the writers to do them justice. They've made such a mess of what was a reasonable post S3 position, and you're right, the characters deserve better.

Well, to be honest I think that to be bitter I'd have to care more than I currently do :(

Overdramatic I can certainly handle, my issue is more that there's been: 1 suicide, 1 attempted suicide, 1 murder, 1 prison sentence, 1 jail break, 1 infertile teenager, 1 teenage mother, 2 expulsions, 1 teacher cheating the exam system, countless notes of couples cheating on each other (I'm sure I'm missing some others), and eh, we've only had seven episodes! They've tried to do far too much and as a result haven't managed to do any of it well.

I've not seen the spoiler, just because I've stayed spoiler free the whole way so far and don't want to stop now. I'm not sure it matters what they do next week though, I think there's too much to cover (and from the trailer it looks like there's a potential Katie/Thomas/Pandora story line to fit in there somewhere too?!) and I don't think they can wrap any of it up properly.

But yes, there were definitely some good times, so once the seasons over then we can pull those out and leave all the rubbish

No, it's not just you.

To be fair, I think his writing has improved. I enjoyed 4.01 and 4.07 (if you take the extreme plot devices away) more than say, 2.06, which was Tony's S2 ep. I just don't think he's handled the responsibility of a full season, and almost needs someone to just reign in some of his more out there ideas. He does have talent, for example, he came up with Cook, but I just think that S4 needed more of a guide on the series as a whole, whereas JB seems to have taken the hands off approach.

Yes, it's a shame, as these characters had great potential, which has already been explored in fanfic, and it would have been great to see something even half as good as some of fandom's creations on screen.

How dare you. The ending was heartfelt, emotional, affecting, riveting ...

DUDE IT FUCKING SUCKED WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?!

Just why? I was fine with the psychiatrist being weird and a bit creepy, maybe getting "too close" to Effy or something but there was no fucking rhyme or reason for making him a despotic killer.

And you it ruined a fine episode for me too. Wasn't my favourite but since I don't care that much for Effy anyway it did a good job of just holding my interest. Group scenes, some Naomi/Effy (even if it was still the dumb Naomi we've been seeing recently instead of the classy older version), Cook being awesome and gorgeous imagery and stuff.

But now the finale, which already had to cover (if not actually resolve) Naomi/Emily, Panda/Thomas, Katie/Thomas, the Campbell/Fitch household and Emily/Mandy has randomly had the biggest event of the season added on top of that. So we're gonna be forgoing character-growth for another detective storyline. Shitting hell ( ... )

Yeah, just why? Where did they think would be the benefit of this number of story lines? If it had just been the Freddie thing and the rest of the season had been drama free, then, ok, I guess I can roll with it. But it wasn't, it wasn't even a little bit.

Expectations are set at minus levels for next week. If they manage to get through it without killing another character then I'll be reasonably ok with that! PI Cook and PI Fitch have a lot to get done, and there's not going to be much room for this character development thing you speak of. Le sigh.

To sum up; it's all been a bit shit, really.
