Classics are hard

I've been browsing project gutenberg looking for something interesting to read out loud for my Youtube channel and I gotta say, it's tough finding classics that aren't RACIST AS FUCK. It's amazing how much more apparent something becomes when you read it out loud ( Read more... )

Yeah, that always amazes me too. I'm trying to remember what I read last year and I was like WHAT IS HAPPENING WHY IS THIS SO RACIST. Oh, it was the Count of Monte Cristo. It's so blithe and casual about all of its rampant racism and sexism. The abridged version/movie adaptation pretty much removes all of that I think.

I immediately thought of The Once and Future King (or just the first book if that's wayyy too long) but it doesn't appear to be in the public domain. Sad! Not only is it one of my favorite books but Bradley James read a snippet of it once and it was awesome.

BTW I totally got hooked on ASMR videos a year ago when I was having trouble sleeping. I will have to check out yours sometime!
