The visiting scholar would have caught Merric’s eye for a number of reasons. The thick braid of brilliantly red hair dangling over his shoulder. The intense, thoughtful look he had in repose. His manner of introduction-- “I am Ryuto. I have come to gain mastery over my magic”-- a statement that was neither falsely modest nor falsely confident, but sounded like the testimony of a man who knew himself

Ooh, glad to hear you're enjoying it. I'm just kind of bogged down in the, er, mechanics of the final scene. It's coming, though... I definitely haven't forgotten it. :)
