one of the last posts from Somerville

I can't say it's the last b/c you just know that when I am procrastinating from packing over the next two days I'll be posting here. and, warning, I think this is a long one, since it's been awhile.

Since we last saw our heroine she:

the trip to Philly for work was okay -- both my boss and I survived without injury, so that is a sign of sucess to me. the campaign event, which was pretty much my "last hurrah" for swelles went really well (except for the whole hotel-cancelling-DCW's-room thing), and i had a great time out with Chris after it was over, even if she did pass out on my bed in the hotel at 1:30am. ah, well. it was nice to be back in the land of people who say "wooder" and to be able to play tour guide in my hometown. the new Constitution Center is really cool. all history geeks should go check it out (I suggest during the first 2 weeks of September when the school groups haven't had time to plan field trips yet. after the event, and all the wellesley people came back to Boston, I went out to my mom's for the weekend, saw my grandma, saw my grandmother (who looked worse than she has at any point since she got sick 12 years ago), went to IKEA, and saw my friend sarah from high school. mom and I also took a trip to New York to show her my new apartment and I bought a bed.

i am now the owner (and soon will have in my possession) a 6ft tall, hardwood polished double size loft bed. i never had bunk beds as a kid, and only remember sleeping on the top bunk once, at girl scout camp, when i fell out and didn't wake up when i hit the floor. we'll see how this adventure goes. spending the day with mom in the city wasn't too bad -- we did some wandering around in SoHo and the Villlage and the UWS to hit Zabar's and H&H and the Fairway near my apartment. I think short trips home for me combined with the occassional daytrip by mom to the city will do quite well for our relationship.
c) LEFT WELLESLEY 4-EVER! -- I have to admit, my last day at wellesley was rather surreal; it was kind of like graduation all over again (it was even the last day of classes, so there was stepsinging too!) i wasn't doubting that i was making the right decision -- heck, i should have made it a long time ago -- but there is something very bittersweet about leaving a place that has meant SO much to me in the last 7 years and has really been home longer than anywhere else. i went out after work last friday with 6 colleagues for a mini-celebration/bitch session; it wasn't till i was about 5 minutes from home that it hit me "i don't have to get up and go to work on monday." and THAT was weird.....

yeah, that would be my going away party. a mostly-empty stomach plus 1 mike's hard lemonade plus 1 harpoon plus 2 bottles of champagne does not a happy emily make....at least i only sent one drunken email, and it was quite harmless. not that i wasn't tempted to send another one, but i'm glad i didn't. in all, the party was lots of fun, it was great to see so many people and to be able to say goodbye -- it was quite the retrospective of my wellesley career -- from friends that i had known since my first year up through people i've worked with in Resources and have only recently become good friends with. it was all quite fitting.
d2) drank too damn much
(of course this appears two days after my champagne binge....)
and
e) realized she has way too much stuff.....
how the HELL am I going to fit all this in a cargo van and move to New York????
