Does anyone out there use iTunes?  I'm having issues, and I need more help than a Google search can provide.

iTunes is a fucking issue. I'm not being sarcastic when I say the best advice I can give is, if you don't need to use iTunes (say, to sync with your iPod, or play your DRMmed "Fair"Play music), stop using iTunes immediately. Both Winamp and Windows Media player have library support just like iTunes, and can do anything iTunes can, save the proprietary shit. My favorite library-based media player has got to be Amarok, but Windows isn't officially supported, and since I haven't tried a Windows build myself, you'd be taking what you could get there.

Personally, I like to eschew the whole library-based music concept entirely and manage my collection myself. At that point, it doesn't matter what MP3 player you use, though I'm quite partial to Winamp, not only because I've been using it since it was one of the only MP3 players in existence, but because it's handy "Play this directory in Winamp" context menu integration works very well with my MP3 organizational scheme ( ... )

I'm trying to sync to my iPod, so yeah, I kind of have to use it.

I had the urge the other day to listen to a specific song, and I looked for it on my iPod. Wasn't there. So I checked on iTunes, and it hadn't transferred when all the rest of my music did. So I tried to do just that song manually, and it wouldn't work.

It's an mp3, and it's not protected, so there's no reason why it shouldn't work.

It may be an encoding problem, and itunes thinks its unsupported. You could try re-encoding it to a standard bitrate like 128 or 256 and try again, or you might need to check your settings to make sure it's not syncing some "smart playlist" or other nonsense that doesn't include that song. Other than that, I dunno.

it's encoded in 192. Shouldn't that be standard enough?
