You'll have to be more specific. What kind of RAM? I mean, I gots RAM, but it's a smattering of speeds and formats, so who knows if I've got a match.

Though, I will tell you, if the 'puter is less than 4 or 5 years old, I probably don't have the right RAM.

See this is the problem I'm running into. How do I know? I grabbed a few sticks from my roommate, but they were the wrong kind. How do I know what the right kind is?

Well, you have to look at the RAM stick and hope it has a label on it. Someone who knows what they're doing might be also able to figure it out from the model numbers of the chips, but that would be a lot of trouble, and chances are there may still be some guesswork involved.

So here's hoping you can find a label.

Another thought...you could probably find a program that will spit out your PC specs. In fact, this is probably a much better idea. I can't remember what I used back when I used to be a PC tweaker, but a quick search found http://www.hwinfo.com/, and that HWINFO32 looks like it'll do the trick.
