I just accepted the role of The Rev. David Lee in a production of Larry Shue's The Foreigner at The Western Stage in Salinas, CA. The Rev. Lee is described as being very likeable, the kind of person one couldn't imagine having any ulterior motives or bad intentions, who SPOILER ALERT -
turns out to be a white supremacist leader who's trying to con an old lady in order to fund his organization.
The casting director said she thought I'd be perfect for the role, a natural fit.
Thanks! I think....
I'm excited to do it. I think I'll get to work up some flavor of a Georgia (US) dialect, and it sounds like a great production team and a fairly compact rehearsal sechedule. Oh, and I get a little stipend. Oh oh, and I didn't have to audition. They've called and asked me to be involved with a couple other shows this season which I couldn't do for various reasons, so I'm glad this one will work out.
The Foreigner is a very funny farce/social satire. Larry Shue had a couple of hits in the '80s (at least they were hits in Seattle) including this play and The Nerd. His life and career were tragically cut short when he died in a plane crash in '85.
So more acting. Yay!
