Dude, I have totally done that before. When my friends passed their Ph.D. exams a few years ago, I got all emo because I'd dropped out and I had to get over myself too. It's not bad to feel that way; it's only bad if you don't reality check and get over it.
when my work colleague suddenly quit and had found a new job with one application, I had a minor breakdown. I bawled my eyes out at home about the injustice of life. I was happy for her, but at the same time I was insanely bitter. Still am a bit bitter about that. I guess it's a natural reaction.
Yeah, I mean I would feel the same way if the person I'm talking about were in the same field as me. Fortunately she's in a different field so it's not as comparable. Some of the people I graduated with competed for the same job as me but obviously only one of us got it. At first I was soooo bitter about her getting the job over me. I really felt like my work was better, but I guess in the end she was just a better fit. I'm okay with it now, but I know how hard it was at first.
The whole situation of others in similar situations succeeding in their endeavors faster or better always sucks because in my experience it just leave that bad taste in your mouth.
Eh anyway, I'm sorry you had to go through this situation as well. It sucks no matter what. :\

I dunno, it never makes sense to have emotional reactions. I guess it's just part of being human.
*Hugs* Thanks :)
