This fic is great in so many ways, but I think what I like about it the most is its hopeful tone. Even though the tragedy is central, you bring up so many happy things as as Justin's family and friends rally together.
The ending is so perfect. I love Brian's last line.
I don't think I've read any gap-fillers between the bashing and Justin waking. I really never thought it made sense that Brian would leave without seeing Justin or in light of what happened others wouldn't have been encouraged to see him.
I actually got teary-eyed with the public outpouring of support for Justin. We never got to see any of that on the show and that would have absolutely happened. Why did we miss so much? And Brian…I find it hard to believe that he just went off into oblivion through drugs and sex for months. Your story makes so much more sense than what we saw.
I wrote this before the last episode of S1 was aired. (I was able to receive a "screener" tape and I viewed it about a week before the episode was shown)
Knowing that there would be a lot of people upset by the bashing and concerned over whether Justin survived, I wrote the gap filler and posted it at various popular QAF discussion groups within minutes of the episode being shown.
