Wait, Austin is conservative? I was able to easily pick Austin out of a county by county color coded map showing which candidate the residents "liked" the most prevalently on facebook during the primary, because it was the only one that was colored for Bernie Sanders.
It is an island of liberalism, certainly. But they congregate downtown. I've seriously heard young liberal hipsters proudly proclaim they've never been north of 6th street. I live in Cedar Park, which is a northern suburb of Austin, and close enough to Hill country. Where the real Texans live and breathe. I work with a rather mixed bag, which is nice, but the over all climate here is definitely on the other side of the fence of where I stand.

I'd always heard that Austin was basically like Silicon Valley, politically. Quite blue in a sea of red.
