That's awesome; good for you! My dad mastered in anthropology and did a lot of field work when I was a little kid (mostly at local construction sites to check if there was anything historically significant before they built over it). I went along with him occasionally and had lots of fun. We also went camping in Arizona almost every summer, and sometimes New Mexico too, and he could answer any question a 10-year-old could ask about the Anasazi ruins and Hopi traditions and stuff. Good times.
I'd say you have your priorities in the right place. I personally love lab work, and strongly dislike administrivia, which is why I got my B.S. and became a tech - it seems at least in molecular biology, the more degrees you get, the less actual lab work you do.
