In many ways, Thorin’s entire life had been defined by his mistakes; they had shaped him like the smith shapes hot iron, fashioning him into the man he was and the king he could not yet truly be.
Oh, yes, this. Very much this.
Looking forward to more! *bounces*

Also, IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY THAT YOU POINTED OUT THAT THE WRITING STYLE IS SEVERE BECAUSE IT'S THORIN'S INTERNAL MONOLOGUE. :D :D :D Yes yes yes, that's exactly it! If this was set inside Bilbo's head, it wouldn't be nearly so stiff and formal. OH THORIN. (Also, so glad you enjoyed that line. :D)
Thanks so much for the lovely feedback!

I’m so pleased that the stew-like comment has got such a favourable response. XD
Sounds like you don't need that Arkenstone so bad anymore, Thorin. You've got a new treasure to obsess over eh???? ehhhhh??????? ;D But seriously thinking about it dwarves must be insanely possessive of their significant others. <-- BASICALLY THOUGH, AM I RIGHT?? I am actually crazy-curious about how differently the conflict over the Arkenstone would have gone if Thorin and Bilbo had been in a relationship at the time. *plot bunny* BUT YEAH, it makes complete sense to me that dwarves would be ridiculously possessive over the people they love in the same way that they covet and hoard their gold and wealth.
