Letting go of my dream dress...

Jun 23, 2006 02:03

...I am tearing up as I post this, but I have decided to sell my wedding dress. It was never a consideration, until a few weeks ago -- I was horribly against it. In fact, I went into the process of looking for my dress with visions of my own daughter wearing it on her wedding day. I know, I know, somewhat old fashioned and delusional, but I ( Read more... )

Your gown is very stunning. I Love it!
Will you really be able to part with it?

Try posting it on Craigslist.org, it's free and can't hurt.

Emily, that gown really is exactly as your dad put it, "classic and exquisite". I am sure some very lucky lady will snap it up in a second. I've heard preownedweddingdresses.com is a great route too.

I have toyed with the idea of passing on my gown to some other bride eventually, but I just can't seem to part with it. Perhaps after some time I might consider it again. I know my husband is ready to take a torch to it considering it's still hanging in the hallway on the closet door (bagged of course).

I thought I had read at one point that you too had decided to sell your dress, which actually made me feel much better about my decision. I figured that if you could let go of a dress you loved that much, that I could too...so now I'm certainly second guessing my decision. It makes me terribly sad to think about it living permanently at someone else's home and yet I think I'm nuts to hold onto something beautiful with no hope of it ever being worn again.

What made you change your mind again? I just want to make sure I'm thinking this thing through completely....

Oh shoot! I didn't mean to make your decision harder than it already is! Truth be told, my justification isn't a reasonable one. It may be from the fact that the wedding is still so fresh. But I always remember how I wished I could have seen my mother's own wedding gown (burned in a fire). I remember countless times wishing I could have tried it on, or even felt the fabric. I am not so disillusioned that I believe my daughter (if I even have one) would want to dawn the gown for her own wedding. But being the sentimental romantic that I am, I just can't seem to part with it. I may think differently in a year's time, but for right now, I just can't part with it.

That really is a thing of beauty, and you looked absolutely gorgeous in it. I love your reasons for selling, and for those reasons (not monetary) I don't think you'd ever regret selling it. Best of luck! :)

I used to follow along with your journal on the WC, and don't think I've ever seen any of your wedding pictures. They are stunning!
Your gown is absolutely beautiful!!! I know it will be difficult to part with, but it is nice to know that another bride will have a chance her "dream dress." Good luck!
