Hmm... thought provoking. It is like when you are on a long plane trip and bond with the person sitting next to you, but know in twelve hours you will never see them again. (Okay so that is shrot term.) Like the people I meet in China, most I won't keep in contact with.

I think when it comes to friendship living in the present is the best, if you only prepare for the future you may not give someone the time that will become vitally important to you.
