The ultimate ethical act in this case would be to concisely inform your gentleman caller why you are about to hang up on him. Brutes need instant, clear feedback if there is any hope of reducing brutish behavior in our world. Plus, he may now think of you as an anti-democratic, unidealistic slacker who scoffs at her weighty civic responsibilities, and we certainly wouldn't want that.
